      Travelling thru Bordeaux with Labelle wine promotions

We found they don’t have wineries as we know them they have Chateaux…and the area is dotted with these magnificent dwellings and history.

We took the punt and just dropped in on a few … rejected by some … “sorry appointment only” or it may have been the doppy hat I was wearing but we did manage to get access to a couple and find out a few interesting points….

In the region they do a lot of blended wine…Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot which gave the wines we tasted a smooth rounded taste

Also they don’t have a vintage every year like we do…eg 2015, 2014, 2013 etc. … they go every second year…

It was great visiting the area and the kilometres of grapes had to be seen to be beleived

Along with Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc, Mailbec … Merlot is one of the primary grapes used in producing wine in Bordeaux France.

Merlot is also one of the most popular red wine varieties and is regarded as the underdog to Cabernet Sauvignon…how come you may ask?

Cheap commercial Merlot has given the varietal a bad reputation … its time to set the record straight.

Merlot wine is world class and a great wine with food … food pairings to consider chicken and any light meat also just great to sit back and relax and sip.

Red fruits, easy tannins, a soft finish are the characteristics of this wine

There is a difference with the cool climate Merlot … from France and Italy to the warm climate product from Australia and California … either way put it back on your list.
